The UO is a nationally ranked, leading research university, despite funding levels far below that of most of our national peers. This speaks to the uniquely Oregon spirit of tenacity and creativity and to the talented faculty, staff, and students we are fortunate to have drawn to the University over its long history. We have set a path forward in our new strategic plan, Oregon Rising, designed to support student outcomes, enhance the well-being of our community, and elevate our scholarship.

The strength and stability of the University’s future depends on decisions we make in the next few years. Today, higher education faces a challenging economic landscape, and the University of Oregon is no exception. In a period of uncertainty, it is even more important that we practice careful stewardship of our resources, balancing the needs of faculty, staff, students, and our many constituents, supporting and enhancing the student experience, supporting our research enterprise, and continuing to ensure the financial stability of our university. Simply put, a strong future requires that we exercise the fiscal discipline needed to realize our aspirations.
